Brachystelma cupulatum is widespread, but poorly known in South Africa. It is likely to be overlooked, rather than rare or threatened.

This species is known mainly from central and northern Namibia, and the Kalahari region of southern and western Botswana. In South Africa it is known from a few, isolated records.

It occurs in Kalahari sands.
Population
