Stapelia clavicorona is endemic to the Soutpansberg, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 1000 km². No declines to the population have been recorded, and therefore it is listed as Least Concern.

Description
It occurs on hot stony, north-facing slopes along the base of the mountain.
Threats
Threats to Stapelia clavicorona cited by Hahn (2002) include possibly natural factors, including drought and black rot; and sometimes the plants are pulled out by animals. However none of these are deemed to be causing a decline, and nor are they serious enough to be considered a potential problem in future.
