Justification
Known since its discovery in 1985 only from the Elandsberg, but was found on nearby Gaika's Kop in 2010. This highly localized endemic (EOO 48 km²) is not threatened, but the population is very small, estimated to be fewer than 1 000 mature individuals.

Population

Despite searches, Schizoglossum amatolicum has not yet been recollected at the type locality on the Elandsberg since 1985. In 2010, a new subpopulation was discovered after a fire on nearby Gaika's Kop in 2009. The first survey in January 2010 recorded only two plants, and a second, in January 2011 recorded two more plants. This species is evidently very rare, however its habitat is very rugged and it is easily overlooked. More surveys are needed to determine the population size, but at this stage it is estimated to number fewer than 1 000 mature individuals.
