Threats |
This species has lost almost all of its grassland habitat to urban expansion, and at least one known subpopulation occurs on a site earmarked for development. Remaining fragments are degraded due to a lack of fire (many becoming encroached with woody species), and are infested with alien invasive plants. |
Population |
This species was previously known only from the type, collected in 1880 at Inanda. Four new subpopulations have been found since 2010, but these are all confined to small grassland fragments within urban areas, and continue to decline due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation. Two of the subpopulations have been surveyed and are very small, consisting of fewer than 50 mature individuals.
