Justification
This species has a narrow distribution range in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces. It might have lost habitat in the past but its preference for rocky habitat means that the population it is not likely to be declining. With over 20 subpopulations known, it is listed as Least Concern.

Provincial distribution
Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal
Range
This species has a narrow distribution in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces, South Africa, where it occurs from Port St Johns to near Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Forest, Grassland
Description
It mostly grows in partial shade on forest margins on south-facing cliffs, and occasionally in grassland in full sun on rocky outcrops.
Threats
It may have declined in some areas in KwaZulu-Natal, around Pietermaritzburg, due to urbanization and habitat transformation and degradation due to agriculture and forestry plantations in the past. However, the habitat of this species, which is rocky outcrops and cliff faces, is unlikely to be severely impacted by habitat transformation. If there has been a decline in this species, it is probably not to the extent that would place it within the threatened category.
Population

No population data are available, but this species is known to have about 20 subpopulations. The population is not suspected to be declining.

Unknown
Conservation
It is conserved within the Mkambati Game Reserve and Umtamvuna Nature Reserve.
