Range
This species is widespread across central South Africa, from Gordonia southwards through the eastern Great Karoo and western Free State to the Eastern Cape Interior. It also occurs in southern Mpumalanga and the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, extending outside South Africa to Lesotho, Botswana and Namibia.

Description
It occurs mostly on sandy soils, including calcareous sand on river banks, red Kalahari dunes and red-brown sand in open grasslands and thornveld, or in rocky places in Nama Karoo vegetation.
