Diaphananthe fragrantissima is a rare species in South Africa, but widespread outside of South Africa. It is not threatened within South Africa.

In South Africa, this species is only known from Kosi Bay, on the northern Kwazulu-Natal coast. It is however widespread in gallery forests and dry woodlands throughout tropical Africa.

Description
It is an epiphyte in coastal forests, 0-200 m.
Threats
All of this species' habitat in South Africa is protected. It may possibly be targeted by plant collectors, but there are no known incidences of illegal wild collection of this species in South Africa.
Population

This species is rare and localized in South Africa (Johnson and Bytebier 2015), but is also widespread outside South Africa. There are three known subpopulations in South Africa, the largest consisting of between 50 and 100 mature individuals.
