Justification
Habenaria trilobulata is a widespread, but rarely recorded species. It is not suspected to be in danger of extinction.

Range
This species occurs along the Limpopo and Mpumalanga escarpment from the Wolkberg to Barberton, as well as in the coastal forests in Maputaland. The distribution extends northwards to Kenya and Tanzania.

Description
It occurs in open woodland, riverine forest and dry evergreen forest, 0-1100 m.
Threats
There is ongoing loss and degradation of this species' habitat in places, predominantly due to expanding rural settlements in the Lowveld and on the Maputaland coastal plain. Subpopulations in the mountains near Barberton and within the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park are however not declining.
Population

This is a rare species occurring in low densities (Johnson and Bytebier 2015).
