A range-restricted species (EOO < 100 km²), known from only two sites but it is likely to occur elsewhere in the vast, unexplored areas within the Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area, where it is not likely to be threatened.

Arid fynbos, 300-1 500 m.
Threats
No threats have been recorded, there is still substantial intact habitat in the protected wilderness area where this species occurs.
Population

This species is considered rare as it is only known from three collections from two localities in the Baviaanskloof range, it is a large flowered conspicuous species and if it were more common it should have been collected more often. T. Edwards was not able to find more subpopulations of this species.
