Justification
Endemic to the Bokkeveld Escarpment (EOO 189 km²), 85% of its habitat has been ploughed for wheat cultivation. It typically occurs as small stands of individuals that have on average two or three plants. One subpopulation is however large consisting of 100-200 individuals. There are only 10 known subpopulations, the total population is suspected to consists of fewer than 300 mature individuals. Decline is ongoing due to invasive alien grass encroachment and loss of pollinators caused by habitat fragmentation.
