Justification
A wide-ranging species (EOO 18 700 km²), and probably more common than collections indicate, as this species is easily overlooked. Some subpopulations on the Cape Lowlands may have declined in the past, however, the majority of subpopulations occur in montane areas where they are not threatened. This species is known to be able to survive under exotic plantations.

Fynbos and renosterveld, shady spots below shrubs, in clay-loam or sandy soils, 25-1 310 m.

Population

Plants are very small and therefore easily overlooked. This species is likely to be more common than collections indicate (H. Kurzwel, pers. comm.).

Notes
Flowering July to October, after fires and in mature vegetation. Plants have been recorded in pine plantations (Linder and Kurzweil 1999) and among introduced Eucalyptus (Liltved & Johnson, unpubl.).
