Description
Rocky clay soils derived from shale and dolerite.
Threats
As small proportion of this species' habitat has been converted to crop fields, predominantly around Nieuwoudtville, and sporadic loss continues. Its preference for shallow, rocky soils may offer some subpopulations protection against ploughing.
Population

Lycium hantamense is locally common in suitable habitat (Venter 2007). It is known from only a few records cited in the literature, but dedicated field surveys are likely to locate more subpopulations.
