Threats |
This species has declined in the past due to habitat loss to sugarcane cultivation and timber plantations in the northern parts of its range. Most remaining subpopulations in this area occurs in protected areas. Around Durban, Pietermaritzburg and on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast it continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss to urban expansion, coastal development, and spreading rural settlements. Along the Eastern Cape Wild Coast it is threatened by habitat degradation due to too frequent and intense grassland fires, combined with heavy grazing, which is causing forest margins to recede. |
