Justification
This species is known only from the type specimen, collected more than 150 years ago near Durban. It is very similar to L. macropetalus, and may be the same species. The genus Lasiosiphon is in need of revision and species are difficult to identify, and this species may thus be overlooked. If it is a localized endemic to the Durban area it may by now be locally extinct due to habitat loss to urban expansion.
