Population |
This species is only known from the type collection. It was collected by Reverend Henry Whitehead, a missionary who was stationed at Modderfontein west of Springbok between 1855-1856, from where he sent specimens to William Harvey at Kew (Glen and Germishuizen 2010). The type specimen is presumed to originate from this area, but the species has never been recollected in this botanically relatively well-explored region. It is possibly difficult to distinguish from L. cneorifolia, the only other Lopholaena species recorded in Namaqualand (Snijman 2013).
