Population |
Euryops serra is a rare and poorly known species. Most historical records, as well as one recent field observation are from the Groot Winterhoek Mountains. Nordenstam (1968) mentions a single specimen made from cultivated material that is said to originate from Houwhoek, about 100 km to the south of the type locality. This species has never been recollected in the Houwhoek area, nor in suitable habitat in intervening areas, which are botanically well-explored. It is possible that locality information for the cultivated material was incorrect, and Goldblatt and Manning (2000), as well as Manning and Goldblatt (2012) do not include Houwhoek in the distribution range of this species. Until this species' occurrence in the wild around Houwhoek can be confirmed, this locality is excluded from the assessment.
The species occurs in fire refuges and has small populations of fewer than 30 individuals (N.A. Helme pers. obs. 2015).
