High altitude, rocky mountain slopes.
Threats
Too-frequent fires — the Matroosberg has burnt three times in the last 12 years, and for slow growing, high altitude species this is a serious threat (N.A. Helme, pers. comm. 2007).

Locally fairly common, but localized high altitude habitat specialist.
