Justification
Senecio puberulus is widespread, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 5343 km². There are at least 18 records in South African herbaria from Alexandria and Bathurst districts to Zuurberg and Grahamstown. It is listed as Least Concern.

This species is endemic to South Africa, and is found from Suurberg to the Fish River Valley and the coast around Port Alfred.

Description
Its exact habitat requirements are not described in the literature or on specimens. Van Wyk et al. (1988) recorded the species in grassland.
Threats
Although the species' habitat is not known, it is likely to be threatened by agriculture and coastal developments.
Population

Nothing is known about the abundance and population trend of Senecio puberulus, nor its resilience to disturbance. It was last recorded in 1984. Field surveys are needed to gain a better understanding of its risk of extinction.
