Justification
Known from a small area around the type locality (EOO 120 km²) where the population is partly protected within a nature reserve. The two subpopulations outside the reserve are threatened by a severe, continuing decline in habitat quality as a result of heavy overgrazing. Surveys in similar habitat on surrounding mountaintops have not located additional subpopulations, but if other locations exist, they are likely to be similarly threatened.

Description
Mistbelt grassland, rocky, doleritic sites on mountain tops, 1000-1200 m.
Threats
Parts of the grasslands on the Louwsburg plateau outside of Ithala Game Reserve have been transformed to forestry plantations in the past, and remaining grasslands between forest plantations are heavily overgrazed, causing a severe ongoing decline in the habitat of this species (C.R. Scott-Shaw pers. comm. 2007).
