Justification
Known only from the type, collected in 1812. This is an aberrant specimen that does not fit into Cineraria and is more like Bolandia or Mesogramma, but also has characteristics that is not congruent with either of these genera. In a recent revision this species has however not been placed in either of these genera, and its taxonomic affinities remain uncertain. The type collection is from a remote area in the southern Kalahari where it is potentially threatened by overgrazing and alien invasive encroachment.

The species is included in a recent revision of Cineraria (Cron et al. 2006) under 'Species excluded from the genus'. Cron et al. (2006) notes that this species bears characters similar to Bolandia and Mesogramma, but do not resolve the name by placing it in either of these genera.
