National Status
Status and Criteria
Vulnerable D2
Assessment Date
2012/11/14
Assessor(s)

Justification
A localized endemic (EOO <10 km²), potentially threatened by habitat loss to expanding vineyards and competition from alien invasive plants.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Stellenbosch, Simonsberg Mountain.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Boland Granite Fynbos
Description
Cool, moist, south-facing granite and sandstone slopes, 600-700 m.
Threats
This taxon very likely lost habitat to expanding vineyards in the past, and further habitat loss remains a potential threat. Dense stands of alien invasive wattles and pines occur on the lowermost slopes below the population, while scattered invasive pines occur on the sandstone cliffs above. Should these be left unmanaged, it is likely to become a threat to this taxon in future.
Population

A single subpopulation occurs on the lower south-facing slopes of Simonsberg Mountain.
