Helichrysum decorum is a widespread and common species that is declining across its range, but not yet in danger of extinction.

Range
In South Africa, this species is widespread along the KwaZulu-Natal coast, extending as far south as the Mbashe River Mouth, in the Eastern Cape. It also occurs in Mozambique and eSwatini (Swaziland).

Description
It occurs in sandy grassland and open woodland.
Threats
This species has lost more than 50% of its habitat to urban expansion, coastal development, timber plantations and sugarcane cultivation. It is threatened by ongoing habitat loss and degradation, including overgrazing and competition from alien invasive plants.
Population

This species is still common in spite of extensive habitat loss. The population is declining, but not rapidly enough to exceed 30% population reduction in three generations.
