Justification
Known from the type locality at Ngome Forest. Searches for this species around Ngome and the Louwsburg plateau have not located any other subpopulations, although it is suspected that a few more (fewer than 5) subpopulations do exist. Its habitat has been severely reduced due to crop cultivation and afforestation and habitat quality in remaining fragments continue to decline as a result of overgrazing by livestock.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution

Range
Ngome.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Northern Zululand Mistbelt Grassland
Description
Mistbelt grassland, at the edges of dolerite rock sheets where water oozes to the surface, 1000-1300 m.
Threats
Grassland transformation by agriculture and forestry has severely reduced suitable habitat on the Ngome mountain (Scott-Shaw 1999). Severe overgrazing of remaining grasslands at Ngome and on the Louwsburg plateau is causing ongoing declines in the quality of grasslands (Scott-Shaw pers. comm.).
Population

The population at the type locality is described as locally common (Hilliard 1983).
