A widespread, common, weedy species that is not declining.

Range
Cederberg southwards to the Cape Peninsula, and eastwards along the Western and Eastern Cape coast to Komga. Also occurs in the Amathole and Katberg Mountains.

Description
Mountain slopes, prefers damp places along streams or forest margins. It can become weedy in disturbed areas.

Naturalized in Western Europe, Hawaii and Madeira. Records from tropical Africa are either from introductions or are misidentifications (Hilliard 1983).
