Justification
A population reduction of at least 50% is estimated based on 59% of habitat loss over 150 years (within three generations of this long-lived resprouter). Two subpopulations remain, one in the Bontebok National Park, and a second, smaller one is on a nearby farm.

Threats
Crop cultivation was a severe past threat to this species. All known locations outside the Bontebok National Park have been lost wheat cultivation. It was also declining due to overgrazing in the past, when the Bontebok Park was managed only for Bontebok survival and much of the land was overstocked. Managers of the park are however now aware of rare and threatened plant species occurring in the reserve and are implementing management regimes that will ensure the survival of this subpopulation.
