Justification
EOO 938 km², plants at between six and eight remaining locations continue to decline due to competition from alien invasive plants and habitat loss to coastal development and agricultural expansion.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Bredasdorp to Hagelkraal.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Overberg Sandstone Fynbos, De Hoop Limestone Fynbos, Agulhas Limestone Fynbos
Description
Sandy soil closely associated with limestone deposits, often in seepage areas.
Threats
Subpopulations at Groot Hagelkraal, the Soetanysberg section of Agulhas National Park, and Brandfontein Private Nature Reserve are currently well protected, although ongoing clearing and management of alien invasive plants is required to prevent these subpopulations from declining further. Coastal and inland subpopulations continue to decline to coastal development, protea cultivation, alien infestation and urban expansion.
Population

What was one large subpopulation between Agulhas and Struisbaai in the past has now been fragmented by habitat loss to coastal development, and continue to decline due to ongoing habitat loss. This species is also known from historical records from around the town of Bredasdorp, but due to much habitat loss and degradation, it is uncertain whether any subpopulations survive.
