Justification
Agathosma dentata is a rare and localized species, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 4 km². It has no severe threats, and is therefore not suspected to be in danger of extinction. It is therefore listed under the IUCN 3.1. criteria as Least Concern but is nationally recognised as Rare.

This species is endemic to a small area in the Matjies River Valley in the Eastern Cederberg in the Western Cape.

Description
It occurs in sandy valleys and on plateaus in sandstone and quartzite fynbos.
Threats
This species occurs in a protected wilderness area and it has no severe threats.
Population

This species is currently known from two subpopulations on opposite sides of the Matjies River Valley near the confluence with the Krom River. It is possibly more widespread in similar suitable habitat, but field surveys are needed to confirm this. Field observations indicate that it is locally common.
