Justification | Agathosma kougaense is a rare, localized and poorly known species. It is possibly endemic to a single peak in the Kouga Mountains, in which case its extent of occurrence (EOO) is around 25 km². More field surveys and taxonomic study is needed to better understand the range and habitat requirements of this species. It however occurs in protected montane areas where it has no severe threats, and therefore it is not suspected to be in danger of extinction. |

Range | This species is known only from the Kouga Mountains north of Joubertina in the Eastern Cape (Pillans 1950). Recent collections suggest that it may be more widespread, as far as the Swartberg Mountains in the Western Cape. Agathosma is in need of taxonomic revision, and the identity of these collections remain uncertain. |
