Major habitats
Graafwater Sandstone Fynbos
Description
Well-drained sandy soils, occurring in deep sands as well as shallow rocky soils.
Threats
Expansion of potato and rooibos tea cultivation has caused extensive recent habitat loss to subpopulations occurring in deep sandy soils. These subpopulations now remain on small fragments surrounded by crop fields where they are in immediate danger of extirpation by further agricultural expansion. Subpopulations occurring on rocky slopes are however protected from cultivation. This palatable species is also potentially threatened by overgrazing.
Population

Plants tend to be locally common, and habitat loss is estimated to have caused a population reduction of 15-20% in the past 30 years, and continues to cause slow decline of less than 5% per year.
