Justification
Only doubtfully distinct from C. odorata, which is a very variable and widespread species. It generally has smaller leaves, with a more graceful habit similar to C. pilifera, but populations that grow at a lower altitude nearby look almost identical to C. odorata or indeed may be that species. Weimarck suggested that this species was in fact a hybrid between C. odorata and C. pilifera, which certainly seems reasonable and is partially backed up by molecular analysis. Populations of C. odorata around Knysna area can look very similar to C. reticulata and a more critical study of the variation across that species is needed.
