Justification
This species was frequently collected during the 1800s, but in a revision of Muraltia published in 1954 it was noted that it has become very rare. Last seen more than 50 years ago, this species is quite likely threatened, but its current status cannot be determined.

Threats
In 1954 this species was already noted to have become very rare (Levyns 1954) and it has not been recorded since. Many subpopulations may have been lost to urban development and forestry plantations on the lower slopes of Table Mountain, but it could possibly still survive on some untransformed middle and upper slopes. Surveys are needed to try to locate remaining subpopulations.
