Justification
EOO < 8400 km², more than 70% of this species' habitat has been transformed by wheat cultivation and only seven locations remain. Declining due to a loss of habitat quality through alien plant invasions, overgrazing and too infrequent fire.

Threats
Agriculture was a severe past threat across the range of this species - over 70% of its habitat was transformed during the 1950s and 1960s. Alien plants (rooikrans, Hakea and myrtle) threaten localities at Diepkloof and possibly some of the other localities. Grazing is a moderate ongoing threat to all localities (even within De Hoop) - this species is highly palatable. Lack of fire due to fragmentation is a threat as this is a reseeding species that requires fire. The Overberg wheat farmers do not burn stubble of the wheat and many of the fragments suffer from a lack of burning.
