Justification
A widespread (EOO 4054 km²) but rare species known from only seven collections. It is suspected to be overlooked, and not in danger of extinction.

Description
Tillite slopes and shale flats.
Threats
Habitat transformation within the known range of this species is very low (3%). Landuse is predominantly stock farming, which have caused degradation due to severe overgrazing particularly in the Little Karoo. Some species of Ornithogalum are poisonous to livestock and thrive under conditions of overgrazing, however, it is not known whether O. comptonii is poisonous.
