Justification
EOO and AOO <2 km², two known subpopulations are potentially threatened by the effects of habitat fragmentation such as altered fire regimes and loss of pollinators.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Northern Cape
Range
Bokkeveld Escarpment west of Nieuwoudtville.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Bokkeveld Sandstone Fynbos
Description
Seasonally moist, loamy soil on exposed sandstone pavements.
Threats
Surrounding deeper sandy soils are extensively and continuously transformed for rooibos tea cultivation. However, as this species occurs on sandstone pavements unsuitable for cultivation, it is unlikely to be affected by habitat loss, but may be negatively impacted by the effects of fragmentation of the natural vegetation such as altered fire regimes and loss of pollinators.
Population

A rare and localized habitat specialist. Two subpopulations are known, consisting of a few hundred plants (Snijman et al. 1999), but the population size has not been estimated. Plants are not suspected to be declining.
