Justification
This species has an EOO 4590 km², occurs at an estimated 5-10 locations, and is declining due to ongoing habitat degradation as a result of overgrazing.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Northern Cape
Range
Richtersveld, northern Namaqualand and western Bushmanland near Vaalputs.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Stinkfonteinberge Eastern Apron Shrubland, Die Plate Succulent Shrubland, Namaqualand Blomveld, Western Gariep Plains Desert
Description
Stony, well-drained red sand.
Threats
Overstocking of rangelands with livestock is a severe, ongoing threat to many plant species in the Richtersveld, and has led to a loss of shrub cover, species diversity, and soil erosion in degradation in areas such as the Gariep Valley east of Alexander Bay, the plains around Eksteenfontein as well as around Steinkopf.
Population

This species occurs as single individuals or in small, widely scattered groups of plants. It is known from five locations, and is a very rare species (Duncan 2012), but some parts of its range is also in very remote areas that remains botanically poorly explored, and it is possible that more subpopulations exist.
