Lachenalia marlothii is a widespread species that is not in danger of extinction. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 19 496 km², and is listed as Least Concern.

This species is endemic to South Africa, and is widespread across the western part of the Northern Cape, where it occurs from the Richtersveld to the Bokkeveld and Roggeveld escarpments.

Description
It occurs on rocky flats and south-facing hill slopes with clay soils.
Threats
Lachenalia marlothii is not threatened (Duncan 2012).
Population

This is a rarely recorded species occurring as scattered individuals or in small groups (Duncan 2012). There are no severe threats to this species and therefore the population is not suspected to be declining.
