Justification
Lachenalia capensis has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 178 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 40 km². It is known from eight to 10 locations and is declining due to ongoing habitat loss and competition from alien invasive plants.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
This species is endemic to the Cape Peninsula, in the Western Cape.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Peninsula Granite Fynbos, Peninsula Sandstone Fynbos
Description
It occurs on rocky slopes, predominantly on granite.
Threats
Subpopulations outside the Table Mountain National Park are threatened by habitat loss to urban expansion, as well as competition from alien invasive plants. The loss to urban expansion is ongoing in the Simon's Town and Hout Bay areas and there are declines due to alien plant invasion around Smitswinkel Bay and Red Hill.
Population

Plants occur singly or in small clumps (Duncan 2012). A continuing population decline is inferred from ongoing habitat loss and degradation.
