Lachenalia membranacea is a widespread species with no severe threats, and therefore it is not in danger of extinction.

Range
This species occurs in Western Cape province of South Africa, from the Swartruggens Mountains northwards to Nieuwoudtville in the Northern Cape. It is also known from a few, isolated records northwards in Namaqualand as far as Springbok.

Description
This species occurs on rocky sandstone mountain slopes, ridges and on flats. Mature fruits split open and seeds are dispersed locally. Flowers are pollinated by honey bees.
Threats
There are no known severe threats affecting this species.
Population

This taxon is found in small to large colonies, rarely as solitary individuals (Duncan 2012).
