Range | This species occurs in Western Cape province of South Africa, from the Swartruggens Mountains northwards to Nieuwoudtville in the Northern Cape. It is also known from a few, isolated records northwards in Namaqualand as far as Springbok. |

Description | This species occurs on rocky sandstone mountain slopes, ridges and on flats. Mature fruits split open and seeds are dispersed locally. Flowers are pollinated by honey bees. |

This taxon is found in small to large colonies, rarely as solitary individuals (Duncan 2012).
