Justification
Lachenalia schelpei is a highly localized species known from a single location where it is potentially threatened by overgrazing and habitat loss to crop cultivation.

Description
It occurs in seasonally moist, heavy clay on open flats in Hantam Plateau Dolerite Renosterveld.
Threats
This species has no severe threats at present. Its habitat is however not protected, and being localized, it is potentially vulnerable to habitat loss and degradation due to agricultural expansion or overgrazing, which would rapidly lead to its extinction.
Population

This extremely localized species is known from a single subpopulation. It is not declining at present, but requires monitoring. The population is possibly small, but its abundance has not been quantified.
