Justification
A range-restricted species (EOO 7167 km²), known from eight locations and declining due to ongoing habitat loss to mining. It therefore qualifies as Vulnerable under criterion B.
Distribution
Endemism
Not endemic to South Africa
Provincial distribution
Northern Cape
Range
This species is found in southern Namibia and the western Richtersveld, southwards to Grootmis.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Namaqualand Coastal Duneveld, Northern Richtersveld Yellow Duneveld, Central Richtersveld Mountain Shrubland, Western Gariep Hills Desert, Western Gariep Plains Desert, Kahams Mountain Desert
Description
It occupies crevices in rocky outcrops.
Threats
Between Alexander Bay and Port Nolloth, this species is threatened by ongoing habitat loss and degradation due to open-cast mining. Further west, along the central mountains of the Richtersveld, it is possibly threatened by habitat degradation due to overgrazing, but this species' preference for rocky crevices may offer it some protection against erosion and trampling.
Population

A rarely recorded, but possibly overlooked species. It is currently known from eight locations, but it is quite likely that more exist. It has a limited range in southern Namibia, where it is known from two locations, but also likely to be under-sampled. Plants at half of the known locations are declining due to habitat loss and degradation due to mining.
