Description
Crevices in quartzitic or granitic outcrops, on steep slopes and cliffs, often among large boulders on exposed east-facing slopes.
Threats
Overstocking of livestock is causing severe degradation natural vegetation across of most of this subspecies' range in South Africa, as a result of overgrazing and trampling. Its preference for rocky crevices however offers it protection against the effects of erosion and trampling. Unlike many other succulent species in the area, it survives in exposed places, and is not dependent on the shelter of shrub cover.
Population

This subspecies is common in suitable habitat in the Richtersveld.
