Threats
This species is threatened by ongoing habitat loss an degradation as a result of open-cast mining across its range in South Africa and Namibia. In places such as around the Buchuberg, degradation extends far beyond the mining sites due to windblown dust from mining disturbance and exposed mine dumps covering large areas, burying this species' quartz gravel habitat in sand. East of Alexander Bay it is also threatened by trampling and degradation due to severe overstocking of livestock.
