Distribution |
Endemism | Not endemic to South Africa |
Provincial distribution | Northern Cape |
Range | This species is found in southern Namibia and the Richtersveld in the Northern Cape, South Africa. |
Habitat and Ecology |
Major system | Terrestrial |
Major habitats | Desert, Succulent Karoo |
Description | It grows on weathered granite and quartzite-derived gravelly slopes and flats, 65-1182 m. |
Threats |
This species is possibly affected by habitat loss to mining along the Orange River but it seems to be a pioneer plant in disturbed areas. The effect of severe overgrazing and the continuous drought in certain parts of the Northern Cape on the population is unknown. In Namibia, its habitat is well-protected, and it is not affected by any severe threats. |
Population |
It is fairly common within its range, and a large number of recent records indicate that it survives in spite of heavy grazing pressure on parts of its range.
