Justification
Megalochlamys hamata has a restricted distribution in South Africa, but it is not threatened and is widespread outside South Africa. Most of its habitat is well-protected in the Mapungubwe National Park. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

This species is widespread across Zimbabwe and Botswana, extending to southern Zambia, Malawi and western Mozambique. In South Africa this species has a narrow distribution in the Limpopo River Valley around Musina.
