Description
Wetlands, margins of vernal pools, ditches and depressions on lowland clay soils derived from shale or granite.
Threats
Much of this subspecies' lowland habitat has been irreversibly modified due to agricultural and urban expansion, and loss continues. Many remaining wetlands are disturbed and degraded due to altered water flow dynamics, overgrazing, alien plant invasions and eutrophication.
Population

In spite of extensive habitat loss this subspecies is still fairly common and not in immediate danger of extinction (Köcke et al. 2010).
