Description
Coarse, granite derived sandy soils on sheltered, shaded lower slopes below 400 m.
Threats
This subspecies has declined extensively on the Cape Peninsula due to habitat loss to urban expansion and timber plantations. A few remaining subpopulations outside of protected areas, e.g. at Hout Bay and Kommetjie, continues to be threatened by habitat loss to development. In spite of extensive clearing efforts, many known locations of this species on the Cape Peninsula remains infested with alien invasive plants. The only known subpopulation on the Vredenburg Peninsula occurs within the West Coast National Park, and is not threatened, but it is likely to also occur in granite strandveld around Saldanha and Jacobsbaai, where habitat loss to coastal development continues.
Population

Historical records indicate that this subspecies was formerly common on the Cape Peninsula. It has however declined extensively due to habitat loss, and only a few subpopulations remain. It is known from a single collection from the Vredenburg Peninsula, but may be overlooked: this subspecies was formerly included in the widespread and common Triglochin bulbosa. Surveys of granite strandveld of this area is likely to reveal more subpopulations. The disjunction in the population is likely due to the absence of coastal granite between the Vredenburg and Cape peninsulas.
