Range
Mpumalanga Highveld to the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and southwards along the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains to Griqualand East. This species is also widespread further north into eastern and central Africa.

Description
Seasonal wetlands in grassland.
Threats
Some subpopulations, particularly in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, are threatened by ongoing habitat loss and degradation due to agricultural expansion, development, overgrazing. Higher altitude grasslands in the Midlands as well as in the Griqualand East area have been converted to timber plantations in the past, and only small fragments remain.
Population

In spite of widespread habitat loss and degradation, this species is still common within South Africa, and has been recorded from a number of protected areas in KwaZulu-Natal.
