Justification
Phylica anomala is a range-restricted species with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 2803 km². It is known from four locations and is declining due to ongoing habitat degradation and competition from alien invasive plants. It is therefore listed as Endangered under criterion B.

Range
This species is endemic to South Africa, and is found from Caledon to Swellendam.
Habitat and Ecology

Description
It occurs in sandstone-shale ecotones on lower mountain slopes.
Threats
Phylica anomala has lost habitat to crop cultivation around Caledon, the lower slopes of Shaw's Pass and near Napier. At Houw Hoek it has lost habitat to timber plantations in the past. There has been no significant ongoing habitat loss in the past 30 years, but remaining subpopulations are threatened by ongoing habitat degradation as well as spreading, unmanaged alien invasive plants.
Population

It is an apparently rare species known from a few, isolated locations. The population continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation.
