EOO 163 km², plants at four known locations continue to decline due to ongoing habitat loss to coastal development. Subpopulations are small, typically consisting of fewer than 100 plants, and the total population size is estimated to be no more than 1 000 mature individuals.

This species closely resembles P. stenopetala which also occurs along the West Coast but occurs on granite soils. P. greyii is limited to limestone soils.
