Chascanum cernuum is a widespread and common species, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 23 095 km². It is declining due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation, but is not yet in danger of extinction. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

It occurs on coastal flats and lower slopes, often on limestone.
Threats
Chascanum cernuum is threatened by habitat loss to urban expansion, coastal development, as well as competition from alien invasive plants across most of its range.
